Celebrities Remember Comedian David Brenner

In the wake of comedian David Brenner's death from cancer on March 15 at 78, friends and fellow celebrities are remembering the Tonight Show favorite on social media through photos and memories of the late actor, including Fashion Police co-host Joan Rivers.

"RIP David Brenner. I adored him, and laughed more with him than anybody. Sad, sad, sad," wrote the 80-year-old. "Knowing David, he's now making the devil laugh."

Brenner died peacefully at his New York City home surrounded by family, according to family spokesman Jeff Abraham. His last request? That $100 in small bills be tucked into his socks "just in case tipping is recommended where I'm going."

Abraham also shared that Brenner's tombstone will read: "If this is supposed to be a joke — then I don't get it!"

The Philadelphia-native appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson a record 158 times, more than other other guest in the history of the program. He also helped to direct and produce 115 TV documentaries and wrote 5 books, the latest of which was published in 2003.

He is survived by wife Ruth, sons Wyatt and Slade and one grandson.
